COLONEL FRED R. ROSENBERG, CAP
Colonel Fred R. Rosenberg, Civil Air Patrol, is a January 1960 graduate of South Shore High School, Chicago, Illinois, after which attended the University of Illinois Chicago campus at Navy Pier. He entered the United States Army in July of 1960 and after completing Basic Combat and Advanced Infantry Training, he attended the Airborne Training Course at Fort Benning, Georgia.
As a result of an injury sustained in a parachute training exercise in Nicaragua in April, 1961, then Private First Class Rosenberg was released from active airborne status and reassigned to the Army Stenographic School at Fort Harrison, Indiana where he was trained as a military stenographer after which he attended the Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island for training as a military courts-martial reporter. He left active duty as a Sergeant (E-5) and retained that grade throughout his Army Reserve service until June of 1973.
A graduate of the Chicago College of Commerce in 1965, Rosenberg received a Diploma in Court and Convention Reporting. In 1966 he obtained his State of Illinois license as a Certified Shorthand Reporter and has been awarded numerous proficiency certifications in court reporting from the National Court Reporters Association and the National Verbatim Reporters Association. During the course of his career as an active court reporter, he reported numerous military courts-martials and major cases in both Federal and County Court systems as well as convention proceedings for major national organizations. He retired in April of 2012 after a 50-year career as a court reporter and owner of court and deposition reporting agencies.
Colonel Rosenberg has been a member of the Civil Air Patrol since September of 1986 and has served as a Squadron Commander, Group Commander, Wing Director of Mission Support, Wing Chief of Staff, Region Director of Personnel and since December of 2011 as the Vice Commander for Mission Support for Great Lakes Region before assuming Interim Command of the Region on 31 August 2017.
In addition to his involvement with the Civil Air Patrol, Colonel Rosenberg currently serves as the Financial Vice President of Temple Beth-El of Northbrook, IL; the Chairman of the Senior Services Commission of the Village of Northbrook, IL; and is a member of both the American Legion Post #791 of Northbrook, IL and the Jewish War Veterans Post #89 of Buffalo Grove, IL.
Colonel Rosenberg is married to Barbara Berman, a retired Registered Nurse. Between them they have six children, eight grandchildren and three Beagles.
